Thomas Walter (botanist)
Thomas Walter (c. 1740 – January 17, 1789) was a British-born American botanist. He is best known for his book (''Flora Caroliniana'' ) (1788), an early yet fairly complete catalog of the flowering plants of South Carolina.
The Louisiana Irises and the Iris series of ''Hexagonae'' are derived from ''Iris hexagona'', which was published and described by Thomas in 'Flora Caroliniana' page 66 in April–June of 1788.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.ipni.org/ipni/idPlantNameSearch.do?id=438698-1 )〕 Soon after Walter completed the book, he died aged 49.
